Periodica Records founder Whodamanny has finally got round to recording a sequel to his superb 2018 debut album, T.C.P. It sees the Naples-based producer lean further into the colourful, synth-heavy Balearic and jazz-funk influenced nostalgia that has long marked out his home city's 21st century dance music community. Rich in colourful synth sounds, heady vocals, dreamy chords and sun-bright melodies, Onda Bilboa sounds like an album that could have been recorded and released as a private press album in the mid-to-late 1980s. It features nods aplenty to proto-house, boogie, lo-fi European synth-pop and Italo-disco, all cloaked in the colour and positivity associated with Neopolitan music. As a result, it's not only undeniably attractive but hugely entertaining too.
