Theo Parrish's ability to warp, detune and unhinge melody from usual patterns and scales is what stands his sounds apart. It gives them a beguiling edge, especially once paired with his equally off-grid and impromptu drum patterns. Never is that more evident than on the weirdly beautiful 'Walking Thru the Sky' which opens this newly reissued EP from many moons ago. A different take on 'Lake Shore Drive' than the one on the KDJ release also brings dusty drum funk and muted chord magi,c then a classy edit of a Donald Byrd staple shuts down. Essential stuff.
