Jamaican singer Neville Grant cut only a handful of sides in the early 70s, but his work with Lee "Scratch" Perry stands among the most potent. Here two of those rare cuts are finally paired again, both essential glimpses into Perry's peak Upsetter era. On the A-side, 'Sick & Tired' reworks the 'Return of the Django' rhythm into a soulful lament, Grant's voice carrying equal measures of grit and yearning. Flip it over and 'Black Man's Time' hits harder, Perry channelling militant energy into a steppers groove laced with biting organ stabs and heavy bass. Together they reveal Grant as a singular vocal presence and Perry as a producer pushing reggae into politically charged and musically daring territory.
