Throughout the course of his now 20-year career, Black Country producer Mark E has balanced releasing original productions with slipping out 'E Versions' - imaginative and often wildly different re-rubs of a variety of much-loved and little-known tunes. On volume nine in the ongoing series - the first new 12" since 2017 - he revisits one of his own original productions, 'Call Me'. Dixon's brilliant edit, which featured on the original 2011 release, has been recently championed by Luke Una and rightly sits on side A. With undulating analogue synth sounds and heady chords clustering around a simple, locked-in groove, it remains a mesmerising midtempo delight. On the flip, Mark E jams out a new interpretation of his own, 'I'll Call You Back', opting for jazzy and spacey synth sounds and a looser, drum machine-driven beat.
