Joe Gibbs' late-60s catalogue remains a goldmine of overlooked Jamaican treasures, and this welcome reissue revives one of its more elusive pairings. Originally released in 1969 on Amalgamated Records, the single couples The Moon Boys' 'Appolo 11' with The Pioneers' 'Love Love Everyday', a combination that has become increasingly difficult to find outside specialist collections. The Moon Boys were in fact the legendary Hippy Boys, the studio outfit whose ranks would later feed into both The Upsetters and Bob Marley & The Wailers, and 'Appolo 11' captures them in fine form with a tight, infectious groove and plenty of early reggae swagger. On the reverse, The Pioneers deliver the effortlessly melodic 'Love Love Everyday', balancing sweetness and rhythm with the ease that made them one of the era's most reliable hitmakers. A small but significant slice of Jamaican music history.
