Although relatively young, Dave Maze's D&E Chicago imprint has rapidly become one of the most reliable disco, soul and funk re-edit labels around. Here Maze offers up a third instalment of D&E's ongoing Disco Yams series of multi-artist missives. Maze first joins forces with fellow Windy City veteran Spike Rebel (a percussionist known for his work with Glenn Underground) on 'I'm Alive', a low-slung, organ-laced chunk of heady disco soul full of electric piano keys, glossy female vocal snippets and funk guitars, before donning the D&E alias to re-shape Azymuth's 'Jazz Carnival' as a techno-tempo house jam that's as heavy as it is insatiable. Over on side B, Maze drops a disco-tinged funk edit ('A Groove That Will Make You Move'), before successfully rearranging a spiritual jazz-fusion epic ('Speak About It').
