Detroit trio Dames Brown finally unleashed their superb sophomore set, Take Me As I Am, earlier this year - a set produced over several years by the late, great Amp Fiddler. Here the title track, on which he features, is given a deserved single release. The group's original take - a P-funk-influenced chunk of languid, head-nodding soul - sits on side B alongside a handy acapella tool, but this release is all about the A-side Moodymann rework. The Motor City legend has pulled out all the stops, moving from a cut-up beat-free intro to hybrid organic/electronic deep house brilliance. Club-ready but inventive, jazzy and musically detailed, it's a genuinely superb remix - as you'd expect from a producer of his quality and dexterity.
